Short-Term Biochar Impacts on Crop Performance and Soil Quality in Arid Sandy Loam Soil

چکیده
A two-year field study was conducted in sandy loam soil to evaluate the impacts of biochar on quality and growth yields pinto bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) sorghum–Sudan (Sorghum × drummondii). wood-derived commercial applied at three rates (PB) (SS) plots. The application annually for two years PB plots were 0, 2.2, 11.2 Mg ha−1, whereas SS 3.4, 6.7 ha−1. Crop harvest parameters evaluated. Assessed measurements included pH, electrical conductivity, available nutrients, organic matter (SOM), permanganate oxidizable carbon (POXC), aggregates, volumetric moisture content. results showed no significant differences plant over growing seasons both SS. Compared control treatment, ha−1 improved retention after irrigation by 19% first year 25% second year. SOM plot rate higher (1.02%) compared (0.82%), a similar increase not observed plot. Although did affect most measurements, there changes properties time, regardless treatments: POXC increased plots; plot; sodium adsorption ratio, micronutrients decreased. This research years; effects can persist much longer, indicating need longer-term studies arid agroecosystems.

Nitrogen Amendment Stimulated Decomposition of Maize Straw-Derived Biochar in a Sandy Loam Soil: A Short-Term Study
This study examined the effect of nitrogen (N) on biochar stability in relation to soil microbial community as well as biochar labile components using δ13C stable isotope technology. A sandy loam soil under a long-term rotation of C3 crops was amended with biochar produced from maize (a C4 plant) straw in absence (BC0) and presence (BCN) of N and monitored for dynamics of carbon dioxide (CO2) f...
متن کاملEffect of Corn Residue Biochar on the Hydraulic Properties of Sandy Loam Soil
Biochar has an ability to alter the biological, chemical, and physical properties of soil due to its physicochemical properties such as surface area, porosity, nutrient retention ability, available nutrient contents, aromaticity, etc. The present study was designed to evaluate the impact of physical properties and application rate of biochar on the hydraulic properties of a sandy loam soil in t...
متن کاملTillage impacts on aggregate stability and crop productivity in a clay-loam soil in central Iran
To take advantage of conservation tillage systems (including direct drilling and non-inversion) in central Iran, it is important to study the effects of different cultivation practices on soil structural stability as a physical indicator. A four-year study was conducted to investigate the effects of seven tillage systems on aggregate properties of a clay-loam soil (Calcic Cambisol) with continu...
متن کاملResidual Soil Nitrogen and Nitrogen Response of Corn on Sandy Loam Soil
Groundwater contamination is an ever-increasing concern on a national level as well as locally. Increasing amounts of nitrate-nitrogen (NO3-N) being delivered by rivers, including the Mississippi, have resulted in an oxygen-depleted area or hypoxic zone in the Gulf of Mexico. (Turner and Rabalais, 1994b). This nutrient loading has caused nitrogen-limited phytoplankton to bloom. Decom-position o...
متن کاملField Performance of Nine Soil Water Content Sensors on a Sandy Loam Soil in New Brunswick, Maritime Region, Canada
An in situ field test on nine commonly-used soil water sensors was carried out in a sandy loam soil located in the Potato Research Center, Fredericton, NB (Canada) using the gravimetric method as a reference. The results showed that among the tested sensors, regardless of installation depths and soil water regimes, CS615, Trase, and Troxler performed the best with the factory calibrations, with...
